Becciu trial: 11-minute hearing, everything postponed to late January 2027
An 11-minute hearing to set the calendar: next sessions January 26-29, on preliminary issues only. Becciu: “We are nervous”

The Vatican appeal trial over the management of Holy See funds reopened today, October 29, with a hearing that lasted eleven minutes, from 9:17 to 9:28, seven months after the March 17 session. Three of the ten defendants were present: Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, Fabrizio Tirabassi and Enrico Crasso (Vatican News).
Court of Appeal president Alejandro Arellano Cedillo said the hearing was devoted "solely and exclusively" to scheduling. The next sessions are set for Tuesday January 26 to Friday January 29, 2027, from 9 am to 1:30 pm, on preliminary issues only: "we will not yet enter into the merits of the case" (our translation).
At issue is the March 17 order requiring the Promoter of Justice to file the full investigation records. According to the defense, the files submitted are still partly redacted.
"We are nervous," Cardinal Becciu said, according to ANSA. His lawyer Fabio Viglione said: "We respect this calendar, we will be ready in January, we were already ready today" (our translation). Crasso's lawyer Luigi Panella said that if the files are not filed without redactions, the outcome could even be "an acquittal", because "the prosecution cannot continue" (ANSA).
