Domani: Leo XIV's lung tumour found after gastrointestinal problems in France
Newspaper report: checks after symptoms on the France trip; diverges from the Press Office's «routine check-ups»

According to the Italian daily Domani, Pope Leo XIV's lung tumour was reportedly found by chance, after gastrointestinal problems during his apostolic trip to France.
Domani's account. Stefano Iannaccone's piece («Santa indigestione, così il papa ha scoperto il tumore ai polmoni», 26 October 2026) says that during the France trip the Pope had severe gastrointestinal problems for a couple of days, which then cleared up. Follow-up tests — first an ultrasound, then more detailed exams — reportedly found nothing wrong with his digestive system but detected the lung lesion. Domani says the Pope is preparing his next engagements, including the South America trip.
The official version. This account diverges from what the Holy See Press Office has said so far. On 12 October the Press Office spoke of «routine check-ups». On 21 October doctors Carbone and Margaritora reported a localised lung adenocarcinoma, with no further therapy required. It remains a journalistic report attributed to Domani, not officially confirmed in these terms.
