Pope Leo XIV to the American Jewish Committee: "the Church does not tolerate anti-Semitism"

Pope Leo XIV received 40 members of the American Jewish Committee at the Vatican this morning, in the Consistory Hall, and reaffirmed that "the Church does not tolerate anti-Semitism and fights against it, on the basis of the Gospel itself". "Differences of opinion, however profound, must never give rise to prejudice and hostility, which undermine the moral foundations of society." The Pope recalled John Paul II, whose liturgical memorial is today, for his contribution to Jewish-Catholic friendship, and called for the rejection of all forms of religious and ethnic hatred and discrimination.
