Pope Leo XIV will not travel to Assisi on 27 October, on his doctors' advice
🔴 Pope Leo XIV will not travel to Assisi on 27 October for the meeting «Unarmed and Disarming Peace», the Holy See Press Office says. Following his doctors' advice, the decision is meant to aid his recovery after the thoracic surgery of Tuesday 13 October. Luigi Carbone and Stefano Margaritora said a follow-up chest X-ray confirmed that his “postoperative recovery is progressing very well”; given the short time since the surgery, they advised against the helicopter journey as a precaution. The meeting marks 40 years since the World Day of Prayer for Peace called by John Paul II. The Pope will send a message of closeness to the organisers, to representatives of Christian denominations and religions, and to the guests, convinced that the "Spirit of Assisi", dialogue and the search for words and gestures of peace are «valuable resources in an age of conflict».
